Scott Shields started his career as a political blogger in early 2003, contributing to the grassroots group blog Dean Nation. He quickly transitioned his work there to create his own site, DemWatch.com, where he covered the race for the 2004 presidential nomination. That site was linked as a resource by outlets as diverse as the Guardian of London and Yahoo! News. In 2005, Shields joined the editorial staff of the influential progressive website MyDD.com. He currently sits on the Netroots Advisory Council for the Drum Major Institute for Public Policy.

In 2006, Shields was recruited to join the Menendez for Senate campaign as the Director of Internet Operations. His work using cutting-edge technology platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and Scoop earned the campaign favorable press and led PoliticsNJ.com to name him one of the year's Top Political Operatives.

Prior to his work in electoral politics, Shields cut his teeth in the world of music, running a small independent record label. It was during this time that he became well-versed in guerilla marketing tactics -- out of necessity, not pre-planned strategy.

Shields is a graduate of Rutgers University with a degree in American Studies. While at Rutgers, he unsurprisingly served as the webmaster for the American Studies department.
